New biomedical materials journal MedMat officially released
Highlights from the launch ceremony and Biomedical Materials Frontier Forum in Beijing.
Launch ceremony
On 21 December 2023, the MedMat Launch Ceremony and Biomedical Materials Frontier Forum was held at the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems in Huairou. The event was organized with Wolters Kluwer and marked the formal unveiling of the journal’s first issue.
The ceremony brought together scientific leaders from materials science, nanoenergy, biomedical engineering and publishing. Founding Editor-in-Chief Zhong Lin Wang, Executive Editor-in-Chief Yanglong Hou and members of the journal’s leadership introduced MedMat’s scientific mission and international publishing programme.
A platform for medical materials
MedMat was established as a comprehensive, flagship open-access journal addressing health challenges through materials, devices and systems. Its scope includes diagnosis and therapy, advanced drug-delivery systems, regenerative medicine, implantable technologies, tissue engineering, wearable devices, smart sensors and translational medicine.
The journal provides a shared international platform for materials scientists, engineers, biologists and clinicians. It emphasizes medical materials that are deliberately engineered in their physical form, physicochemical behaviour, biological compatibility and functional performance.
Opening perspectives
Speakers at the forum emphasized that medical materials sit at one of the most active intersections of medicine and engineering. The journal’s launch was presented as an opportunity to accelerate communication across disciplines and to support the researchers and engineers who will define the field’s next generation.
Wolters Kluwer representatives highlighted the reach of the Lippincott publishing programme and its experience serving specialist clinical and interdisciplinary journals. The partnership gives MedMat professional global infrastructure alongside its independent scientific leadership.
Looking forward
Following its launch, MedMat continues to expand its international authorship, editorial network and archive of open research. The official website brings complete issue navigation, article-level metadata, locally presented full text, multilingual discovery features and journal community news into one coherent record.
